BIO OF BARBARA WAKEFIELD

Started Training in 1976 at the Park Institute of Taekwondo under
GM Kun Yoo Park

1978 Began Referee Training

1987 Member of 1st USOC Research Team For Computerized Scoring

1979 -1995 Head Instructor at Park Institute of Taekwondo

1989 Began USAT Lifetime Member # 0003

1998 -2004 Became Referee Committee Vice Chair

2004 Became 1st Female USAT Chair

1982 – 2010 Served on all USAT Sr. and Jr. National Championships

1995 – 2003 Appointed WTF Women’s Committee Vice Chair

2006 Received USAT Lifetime Service Award

1989 One of only a few females invited to attend the 19th International
Referee Certification Course and at the completion awarded Outstanding
Student. She also became the first American female to earn International
Referee status

2000 One of four women in the world along with 60 men to be selected
to attend the 31st International Referee Refresher Course held in Jin Cheon
Korea in preparation for referee selection for the 2000 Olympic Games

2003 Became first America female to ran IR 1st Class

Served as Referee Chair for US Taekwondo Hammadang

Refereed numerous championships of and Olympic Team Selection
Events over four continents

Trained and mentored the “next generation” of Referees
