Anna Vassallo V.P. European Taekwondo Union

Anna Vassallo started following Taekwondo since her son started practicing at a young age. She closely followed how the Federation in Malta was working and noticed that it was not functioning as it should. The Federation lacked integrity and good governance and was co-opted in 2017 as Secretary General after the then Secretary General had resigned. Soon after the President resigned, Anna Vassallo was coopted as President. Her fight for good governance continued and so did her fight for the sport to be trully recognized.

Anna Vassallo was appointed by President Sakis ,as the first Female Council Member in World Taekwondo Europe in October 2019. She was also appointed Interim Chair after the Maltese Federation was suspended together with 3 of its members. She resigned from Interim Chair to let the investigation process over and in February of 2021 was again elected President with a fresh new Association and Executive Committee Members. Since then Anna Vassallo and the new Association and Executive Committee Members have not stopped working to promote the sport and motivate students. Despite covid restrictions they have successfully organized 2 training camps – one for the local team and an International one, various small competitions. As a result. the athletes of the Malta Taekwondo Association will be traveling to Brussels for their first training camp abroad this year and in preparation for the Paris Open in November. The Malta Taekwondo Association is recognized by World Taekwondo, European Taekwondo Union, Maltese Olympic Committee, the Commissioner of the Voluntary Sector and the Ministry of Sport. Her Executive committee is made up of three (3) women and two (2) men. It also includes a moderator to see that the association works with respect and integrity. In the meantime, Anna Vassallo was also appointed the first female Vice President in European Taekwondo Union. It is the highest position in sport in her country.
