This inset in the ring was made from the stone which was retrieved from the ground surface of Kukkiwon in 1975 during the 2nd World Taekwondo Championships. At that time the Kukkiwon which was constructed only a few years earlier sat atop a large hill in Seoul. Korea surrounded by rice paddies At that time building also held the offices of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF), Korea Taekwondo Association (KTA), all three entities headed by Dr. Un Yong Kim. After a practice session with my teammates I retrieved the stone which I thought was the perfect souvenir. There is still enough rock to produce several other rings Also shown is the person who cut and polished the stone then set it in the ring.
