ABOUT GRANDMASTER TAE SUN KANG, VP
Grandmaster Tae Sun Kang was born in South Korea where he began his training in 1967. His father, Suh Chong Kang, a 10th Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo, acted as his first instructor. In 1969, the family moved to the United States and established their first Taekwondo school in Brooklyn, NY. This was the beginning of the Kang System in America.!Grandmaster Kang has dedicated his life to mastering the art of Taekwondo and went on to receive his black belt in 1973. By 1977, he was named Head Instructor of the New York Taekwondo Academy. Periodically tested by his father, he received Master status in 1986 and Grandmaster status in 2007.!Today his life is dedicated to his current and future Taekwondo students; he advises students, masters, and affiliates alike in his international system, personally teaches classes, and seeks novel ways to introduce TKD to others. With the help of his professional staff, individually educated by Grandmaster Kang, the Kang system has a high retention rate including practitioners of the system for more than 40 years. GM Kang and his instructors have guided over 30,000 students in Taekwondo and conferred over 3,000 black belts, including seven 8th Dan titles and numerous Master and Sahbumnim titles. His trainees also include some of the top tournament competitors in the world.!Between his four primary centers in New York City, the Johns Hopkins Taekwondo Club, and other locations throughout the United States, he continues his unique and innovative program. Subsequent to his receiving the highest honor in Taekwondo upon being inducted into the OFFICIAL TAEKWONDO HALL OF FAME® he was appointed to the position of vice president of the organization.
