“The Handshake”

This sculpture depicts the actual historic handshake between First Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha, revered as the “Father of British Taekwon-Do,” and Senior Master Spiridon Cariotis of Australia, both distinguished inductees of the Official Taekwondo Hall of Fame®.According to Senior Master Cariotis, the handshake symbolizes touch a fundamental human connection and, when contemplated more deeply, represents the passage of knowledge from senior to junior, embodying the transmission of tradition, respect, and responsibility within Taekwon-Do.

This magnificent work of art was created by Jenn Maria Cariotis of Adelaide, Australia, sister of Senior Master Spiridon Cariotis, and stands as a powerful visual expression of lineage, continuity, and the enduring bonds that unite the global Taekwon-Do community.The United States Taekwondo Museum® would like to sincerely thank Senior Master Spiridon Cariotis for his tremendous contribution.
