1973 WORLD TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIP MEDALS
This writer is extremely honored to have taken the photos of the two medals which were utilized in producing this exhibit. They are the two medals connected to a landmark moment in early international Taekwondo competition: an individual bronze medal awarded to ALBERT CHEEKS and the USA Team’s overall 2nd place silver team medal from the 1973 World Taekwondo Championships, held in Korea.
The USA Team roster included the legendary late Joseph Hayes, Michael Warren, Fred Absher, Clark Murphy, and Jim Butin, competing together during a foundational era when national teams helped define modern Taekwondo sport and set performance standards for future generations.
In recognition of their achievements and enduring legacy, those named—together with their coach—were inducted in 2007 into the Official Taekwondo Hall of Fame®.

알버트 치크스 & 미국 대표팀 — 1973년 세계 태권도 선수권대회(대한민국)
본 전시에는 초기 국제 태권도 경기사의 중요한 순간을 보여주는 두 점의 메달이 포함되어 있습니다. 하나는 알버트 치크스에게 수여된 개인전 동메달, 다른 하나는 미국 대표팀이 획득한 종합 2위 단체전 은메달로, 모두 1973년 대한민국에서 열린 세계 태권도 선수권대회와 관련된 유물입니다.
미국 대표팀에는 고(故) 조지프 헤이즈, 마이클 워런, 프레드 앱셔, 클라크 머피, 짐 뷰틴이 함께 출전했으며, 이 시기의 국가대표팀 경쟁은 현대 태권도 스포츠의 기준과 전통을 세우는 데 큰 역할을 했습니다.
이들의 공적과 유산을 기리기 위해, 위 선수들과 코치는 2007년 OFFICIAL TAEKWONDO HALL OF FAME®에 헌액되었습니
